The Renaissance and Poplar - Who Knew?

Italian ancestry is important in our family. We study the Stefani heritage through ancestry.com and family live history to learn about the culture and legacy of Italian descendants. The love of art and design brought me to some interesting findings about the wood used in our design for the art hanger we offer in this listing. In a quick look at the University of Arizona Tree Tour, in Greco-Roman ancient mythology, the Poplar Alba (scientific word for poplar) was consecrated to Hercules for his defeat of Cacus and he crowned himself with the branches of the poplar. Additionally, the tree is planted to honor the memory of those we love who have died. In addition to the ancient Greek/Roman mythology, in the early Renaissance period, Italian artists enjoyed the use of poplar wood in their paintings. It is interesting to note that poplar is a hard wood yet light weight and strong at the same time. The Mona Lisa was painted on a 30-inch-tall by 20-inch-wide poplar panel. How could we not offer our 17-inch hanger for all your beautiful rugs and quilt wall hangings using poplar wood? From one artist to another!
